SLP proposal

For the semester long project I would really like to work with the idea of turning the book into a film based type sequence of a murder or serial killer type scene. I’m always working with the idea of decay and death but I wanted to incorporate landscapes in some way. Therefore I thought it would be interesting to take all the ideas I’ve always had about the subject, and combine them into one book. I think the idea of time could be an interesting concept where I have things span out over “months” or “years” and almost tell a story of certain people. Also, I thought it might be cool to leave out the identification of anyone in the photos so masks could be worn, which to me also incorporates this sort of creepy, spooky horror type flick. I would love to take the photos with the 4x5 camera because I want as much detail as possible, though I might shoot with the regular 35mm to get some abstract, out of frame shots that incorporate movement and blurry figures. I mainly just want to work with people in some form, and connect them to the idea of landscapes, but also with a really abstract, unnatural feel to it. If this doesn’t work out, I could possibly just work with the idea of people and juxtaposition. Something like Ralp Gibsons De Ja Vu book. I want to be able to shock the viewer and also leave them hanging in the end, wanting more. I’m not sure if I want any text in the book besides the title of the photographs, something simple and quiet like Robert Franks photobook, somewhat leaving the interpretation and surprise to the viewer. I think this is the direction I want to head in for my SLP but I really want to get some more ideas together to see what direction I could further take the book.
